Crystals Arkansas is ranked 27th in size among the states. Arkansas produces a wide variety of minerals, including petroleum, natural gas, and is ranked first in the world in production of bromine, and produces 80% of the world's production of bauxite, along with diamonds and crystals. Arkansas has 6 national parks, 13 lakes, and 9,000 miles of streams and rivers. Hernando De Soto was the first European to visit the land that would become Arkansas. The land was already settled by Native Americans. Arkansas means "south wind."
